Mircea Ciobanul, ruler of Wallachia (15451554, 15581559). His first reign (November 1552-spring 1553) was interrupted by the pretendent Radu Ilie. Hostile to the high aristocracy, he tried to attract the other sections of the people by making concessions to them. In 1548 he defeated a large army at PeriS, gathered by the fugitive boyars in Transilvania in order to depose him. He was concerned by the urbanistic development of Bucharest and took great interest in the printing activity of Coresi.
